Irish DPC investigates Facebook’s handling of children’s data on Instagram

According to Euractiv, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has launched two investigations into Facebook after privacy concerns were raised about its handling of children’s personal data on Instagram. Both inquiries were launched in September. The first inquiry intends to establish if Facebook has a legal basis to process the data and whether it employs adequate protections on Instagram. The second inquiry will examine whether Instagram adheres to the EU’s data protection requirements, after it appeared that it made public the email addresses and phone numbers of users under 18.
