Internet tax debates take off in different countries

Throughout the first week of 2016, debates concerning Internet taxes have developed in different countries:

  • In the USA, a permanent ban on taxes on Internet access is debated. Proponents attempt to remove the expiration date of the current ban from 1998. The topic will soon be decided on in the Senate.
  • Indian Internet and mobile content providers are uniting to seek service tax exemption for startups and VAT-exemption for e-commerce firms.
  • In Pakistan, digital publishes have urged the government to remove taxes on broadband Internet and data services of mobile phone companies.
