Indian government orders removal of TikTok app from Google and Apple store

The Indian government has issued an order pushing for the removal of the video-sharing application ‘TIK TOK’ from Google and Apple because it is a platform ‘degrading culture and encouraging pornography, besides causing paedophiles and explicit disturbing content, social stigma and media health issues between teens’. The issued ban applied only to the possibility of downloading the app from online stores whereas existing TIK TOK users were still able to enjoy the services of the app. Similar bans have also been issues in the region in Bangladesh and Indonesia where TIK TOK faced the same accusations. Google and Apple removed the app from their stores on 18 April.
