FTC, DOJ seek to change competition rules for Big Tech

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) together with the US Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a review of merger and acquisition approvals to ‘address unique problems raised by the tech industry,’ according to the New York Times. The FTC and the DOJ seek public input in how to deal with the merger surge in 2020 and 2021, leading to decreased competition with the aim to modernize the US federal merger guidelines to better detect and prevent illegal, anti-competitive deals in today’s modern markets.
