Freedom of the Press in 2015 lowest point in 12 years

Freedom House has released its annual Freedom of the Press report. According to the report, ‘global press freedom declined to its lowest point in 12 years in 2015’, with only 13 percent of the global population enjoying free press. Forces against the press were strongest in the Middle East and Turkey, but press freedom also saw a decline in Europe. In China, censorship of news and Internet content increased and professional journalists detained. According to the report, the top 10 worst-rated territories are Belarus, Crimea, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
