Facebook, Twitter accuse China of spreading disinformation over the Hong Kong protests

Twitter has issued a statement declaring that ‘more than 900 accounts from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) attempted to create political discord in Hong Kong’ by fueling the spread of misinformation over the past protests. The company added that the evidence showed that the accounts were part of “a coordinated state-backed operation’. Facebook has also identified Chinese accounts responsible for coordinated inauthentic behaviour.
