Facebook Independent Oversight Board asks for clarity on review system for high-profile users

The Independent Oversight Board asked Facebook to provide transparency on the rules it uses to review content decisions relating to high-profile users. The Board requirement follows a report that Facebook exempts some high-profiles users from its rules regarding harmful content. The WSJ reported that some profiles are whitelisted and immune from Facebook’s enforcement decisions.

The Board had already asked Facebook to provide an explanation on how its cross-check system works, in addition to requiring the company to share the criteria for including pages and accounts to cross-check. The platform provided an answer but did not further elaborate the criteria for adding pages and accounts to its cross-check system.
