Facebook hopes to boost connectivity using laser beams

Facebook’s Connectivity Lab has published information about a new technology that could deliver Internet access to remote areas: laser beams. So far, the system can be used to for data at rates of 2.1 gigabits per second. Facebook’s laser project is just one of several ways in which the company attempts to boost Internet access. Most famously, it is also working on solar-powered drones that can deliver Internet connectivity.
