Facebook and Twitter take down several disinformation networks
Facebook and Twitter announced they had taken down more than 12 disinformation networks used by political and state sponsored groups to mislead users on their platforms in the USA, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Thailand, Myanmar, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Azerbaijan. The platforms have found more than 1000 accounts which used fake identities to spread false information. Facebook admitted that the networks were backed by political groups who targeted local audiences. Twitter said that the networks used to spread misleading information were separately linked to groups involved in the governments of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Thailand, and Russia.
