European S&D Group calls for a new Social Contract for the Digital age

Ismail Ertug, Vice President of the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament who is in charge of the group’s Digital Agenda, said that Europe needs a new Social Contract for the digital age. In an interview, Ertug stressed that his colleagues are not convinced by the visit of Mark Zuckerberg to Brussels, and that regulation is needed to ensure digitalisation that is human-centric and based on European values. The S&D group has published a position paper ‘Our Inclusive Digital Europe – Leaving Nobody Behind, Offering Opportunity for Everyone’ that addresses a broad scope of issues, from industrial policy and gender equality to ethical AI.
