European NGOs launch ‘Reclaim Your Face’ campaign against facial recognition in public spaces

A dozen human rights groups in Europe have launched the ‘Reclaim Your Face’ campaign calling on local and national authorities to listen to concerns raised by communities about the risks of using facial recognition technology (FRT) and other biometric technologies in public spaces. The group is asking authorities and companies to be transparent about their use of FRT and explain what motivates the use of the technology. It is also asking for a ban on biometric mass surveillance and for respect for individuals’ free will and freedom to choose.
