EU Commission publishes second annual review of EU-US Privacy Shield

As reported by the National Law Review, a central component of the second annual review was the assessment of the implementation of last year’s recommendations. The report focused particularly on commercial issues, human resources and data automated individual decision-making, and developments in the US legal framework. One of the main criticisms from the European Commission is that the post of the Privacy Shield Ombudsperson has not been filled by a permanent appointment. The EU expects the US government to fill the ombudsperson position on a permanent basis by 28 February 2019.
