CRPD holds its consultations online

On 16th August 2021, The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities opened its 25th- session. Hearing from the Director of the Human Rights Council and Treaty Mechanisms Division, Mahamane Cissé-GouroIn, in his opening statement recognized the most recent ratifications of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) by Botswana and Uzbekistan last month, and the ratifications of the Optional Protocol by Georgia and Sao Tome and Principe, totalling ratification of 184 and 99 state parties respectively. Gouroln, was grateful to the Committee for its devotion to avoiding a human rights protection gap during the COVID-19 pandemic and strongly urged for the implementation of the CRPD at the national level.

The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is the body of independent experts which monitors implementation of the Convention by the States Parties.
