Canada: sensitive data under government control to stay in servers within the country

The Canadian government has recently published a draft Cloud Adoption Strategy, which, among others, outlines a series of principles for cloud adoption within governmental agencies. One of these principles states that ‘all sensitive or protected data under government control will be stored on servers that reside in Canada’, in order to ‘ensure Canada’s sovereign control over its data’. It is also mentioned that data in transit will be appropriately encrypted.
