Apple’s ‘Lockdown Mode’ iPhone feature can help journalists

Apple’s ‘Lockdown Mode’ is a new security feature designed to protect users from sophisticated spyware, restricting certain device functions to prevent hacking attempts, especially by governments.

Apple introduced a new security option that limits some features on its devices, a move meant to lessen the chances that users can be hacked by sophisticated spyware.

Called “Lockdown Mode,” the new feature aims to counter the rise of advanced hacking software that is sometimes used by governments to take over a person’s device.

Such software often lets governments read text messages and emails on a smartphone or even force it to eavesdrop on its surroundings.
