Airtel Africa partners with UNICEF to bring internet to African schools

Aiming at addressing the digital divide that was exposed by the COVID-19 crisis, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Airtel Africa (African branch of Indian Bharti Airtel) unveiled 5-year partnership agreement to buttress the e-learning process in Africa including Chad, Congo, DR Congo, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. Through this partnership, Airtel Africa will invest US$57 million as part of their new sustainability strategy which supports education in Africa. ‘Hundreds of millions of children in Africa have seen their education disrupted or put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic. By championing digital education for children in Africa, this partnership with Airtel Africa will help put children’s learning back on track,’ said UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore.
