AI tool helps doctors analyse prostate cancer scans

New AI system may help radiologists identify biopsy targets faster.

Researchers in Norway develop AI tool to analyse prostate cancer scans.

Researchers in Norway have developed an AI diagnostic tool designed to assist doctors in analysing prostate cancer scans. Scientists at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology tested the system using MRI images from hospital patients.

The technology known as PROVIZ helps radiologists determine whether a biopsy is needed and where tissue samples should be taken. Trials at St Olav’s Hospital in Norway suggest the tool could speed up the diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer remains the most common cancer among men in many Western countries. Researchers in Norway say rising use of PSA blood tests has increased demand for MRI analysis by specialist radiologists.

Patient interviews in Norway show strong support for AI-assisted diagnosis when doctors confirm the results. Specialists in Norway say trust in medical professionals remains essential for wider adoption of AI in healthcare.
