As delegations at the Concluding session of the Ad Hoc Committee (AHC) on Cybercrime did not reach a consensus on the draft text of the convention on cybercrime, a reconvened concluding session was planned and started today, 29 July.

The reconvened session will last ten days, from 29 July until 9 August 2024. According to the annotated provisional agenda, the AHC will undertake a reading of the preamble, the general provisions, the provisions on criminalization, procedural measures and law enforcement, international cooperation, preventive measures, technical assistance, and the mechanism of implementation, and the final provisions of a comprehensive international convention on countering the use of information and communications technologies for criminal purposes, using the updated draft text of the convention (A/AC.291/22/Rev.3).

Essentially, the aim is to exhaust all efforts to reach a consensus on the draft text of the convention. If consensus is not reached, the Bureau of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will confirm that a two-thirds majority of the present voting representatives shall take the decisions.
