Worried Ethiopians call for an end to partial Internet shutdown

According to a news report, rights groups and citizens in Ethiopia have called on the government to lift  the Internet shutdown in parts of the country since it is ‘leaving millions of people without important updates on the coronavirus’.

The shutdown of Internet and phone lines in the past several months has been imposed in Western Oromia and parts of the Benishangul Gumuz region. According to the report, shutdowns were implemented as part of government efforts to clamp down on activities of rebel forces in the region.
