World Intellectual Property Day highlights digital creativity

This year’s World Intellectual Property Day is focusing on digital creativity. According to Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), ‘the way in which creative works are produced, distributed and enjoyed around the world has been reimagined as a consequence of digital technology.’ He stressed that the importance of the Internet in providing creative and economic opportunities for artists. At the same time, WIPO states in a press release that the medium is ‘disrupting business models and pressuring many creators’ livelihoods.’
