A working group is being set within ICANN to review rights protection mechanisms in all gTLDs

The Generic Names Supporting Organisation within ICANN has chartered a working group tasked with reviewing all rights protection mechanisms in all generic top level domains (gTLDs). Rights protection mechanisms, such as the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy and the Trademark Clearinghouse, have been created as means to mitigate potential risks and costs to trademark rights holders that could arise in the expansion of the gTLD namespace. The working group, which is currently under formation, will look into the efficiency and effectiveness of such mechanisms, and will consider whether they fulfill the purpose for which they were created, or whether additional policy recommendations are needed.
