WIPO uses artificial intelligence in translation tool for patent documents

The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has developed a translation tool based on artificial intelligence, to facilitate the translation of patent documents. The tool – called WIPO Translate – incorporates neural machine translation technology to translate technical patent documents into a second language, in a style that is close to common usage. In an initial phase, the tool has been trained to translate Chinese, Japanese, and Korean patent documents into English. According to the organisation, WIPO Translate will make patent documents ‘more easily accessible to innovators who search these records for inspiration or technical know-how’.
