Washington hosts high-level meeting on Global Connect Initiative
Finance ministers, company executives and government representatives met for a discussion on global Internet connectivity, led by US Secretary of State John Kerry and World Bank President Jim Young Kim. The meeting concerned the US State Department’s Global Connect Initiative, which was launched in September 2015 and aims at bringing 1.5 billion people online by 2020. According to Kerry, the programme can be called ‘sort of the international equivalent of Franklin Roosevelt’s electrification program 80 years ago.’ A recording of the discussion can be found on the World Bank’s website.
