Voter ID cards to go digital in India

The Indian Election Commission is expected to launch the Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card (e-EPIC), which is intended to make voter ID cards digital. The service is expected to become available to voters across the country before assembly elections take place in five of India’s states. The digital identity card is set to contain a secured QR code with an image and demographic information like serial number. The e-EPIC is meant to be digitally stored and will be downloadable on mobile devices and computers.
