Varta AG, the German automotive battery manufacturer, reported a cyberattack on Monday that impacted five of its production plants.

The company released an official statement on Tuesday, revealing that the attack targeted parts of its IT systems, affecting both production facilities and administration.

Varta has taken proactive security measures by temporarily disconnecting its IT systems and shutting down production facilities in accordance with its emergency plans.

A task force of cybersecurity experts and data forensics specialists was immediately put in place to help restore normal operations as quickly as possible and deal with the incident. The company is currently assessing the extent of the damage, emphasising the utmost care to ensure data integrity.
