The Biden administration is looking for potential accountability measures for artificial intelligence (AI) systems, such as ChatGPT, as concerns are raised over their impact on the country’s national security and education. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) stated that there is a growing regulatory interest in AI accountability mechanisms and looks at possible efforts that would serve as a ‘cohesive and comprehensive federal government approach to AI-related risks and opportunities.’ Additionally, the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Policy asked the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to prevent OpenAI from issuing new commercial releases of GPT-4 as it is a risk to privacy and public safety.
