US Treasury repels a DDoS attack

The US Treasury has thwarted a low-level DDoS attack on its infrastructure nodes. The Treasury has attributed the attack to Killnet, the Russian hacker group that in October claimed responsibility for interfering with the websites of several US states and airports. The incident took place a few days before similar attacks from Killnet on American financial services companies.

The US Treasury successfully repelled a DDoS attack, a US Treasury official said on Tuesday.

According to Todd Conklin, cybersecurity adviser to deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, the Treasury has attributed the DDoS attacks to Killnet, the pro-Russian hacker group that in October claimed responsibility for interfering with the websites of several US states and airports. ‘Pretty low-level DDoS activity targeting Treasury’s critical infrastructure nodes’, was how Conklin described the attack on the Treasury.

The incident, which was unreported until now, took place a few days before similar attacks from Killnet on American financial services companies.
