US senators tell NTIA that it has violated federal law in using federal funds in relation to the IANA stewardship transition
US senators Cruz, Lankford, Lee and Duffy have sent a letter to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) arguing that the administration ‘apparently’ violated federal law in using federal funds in relation to the IANA stewardship transition process. According to the letter, NTIA has violated a provision in the Fiscal Year 2016 Omnibus which stipulates that the administration cannot use federal funds to relinquish its responsibility with respect to the Internet domain name system functions during fiscal year 2016. The contract awarded by NTIA to the Berkman Center as Harvard University to review the IANA transition proposal is given as one example of how the law has been violated.
