US pulls out of OECD talks on global digital taxation

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced in a letter to four European counterparts, that the US is not able to agree on changes to the global taxation law, even in the form of interim measures. USA has suspended talks on this matter with the EU and warned of retaliatory tariffs, should EU countries impose their own digital taxes on US companies.

The negotiations for the new global taxation framework are led under the auspices of OECD and aim for a consensus-based long-term solution to the tax challenges arising from the digitalisation of the economy.
