US NIH launches new COVID-19 research

The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched a Coronavirus research project as part of its precision medicine programme ‘All of Us’. In addition to robust antibody testing and patient surveys, the NIH will be using electronic health records (EHRs) from over 200 000 participants of ‘All of Us’ to look for patterns and better understand COVID-19 symptoms and associated health problems, as well as the outcomes of different medicines and treatments. These analytical efforts will enable researchers to learn more about COVID-19 and its impacts on various communities across the country. The collected data for ‘All of Us’ is anonymised and stored on a central platform.
