US HHS secretary supports telehealth expansion

According to a report, US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar stated that the Trump administration will support the permanent expansion of telehealth services for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries by taking regulatory steps. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the HHS loosened restrictions around telehealth services temporarily in hope of minimising the risk of exposure to the Coronavirus while enabling people to receive health services remotely. Azar said that the HHS will do everything it can through regulations to make telehealth permanently available as it has become an integral part of the US healthcare system.
