The US FCC issued a public notice about future IoT spectrum needs

The FCC has approved a notice of inquiry into the future spectrum needs of IoT. The Commission seeks comment on IoT spectrum issues, as directed by the National Defense Authorization Act for 2021. The act aims to shed light on spectrum needs to enable IoT connectivity through the following questions: (1) Is there an adequate spectrum available, or is it planned for allocation for commercial wireless services that could support the growing IoT? (2) If the proper spectrum is not available, how to ensure that sufficient spectrum is available for increased demand for IoT? (3) what regulatory barriers may exist to provide any needed spectrum that would support IoT uses? And (4) what the role of the unlicensed and licensed spectrum is and will be in the IoT growth? The deadline for comments is November 1, 2021.
