US Department of Justice creates a group to study national security challenges posed by IoT devices

The US Department of Justice (DoJ) has created a threat analysis team tasked with studying potential national security challenges posed by Internet-connected devices such as self-driving cars and medical devices. According to the head of the DoJ national security division, cited by Reuters, the goal of the group is to secure the Internet of Things (IoT) from exploitation by terrorist threats and by others who might try to hack devices to cause loss of life or achieve political or economic gain. The group, said to be composed of around 10 people, aims to identify and address security challenges presented by the IoT before they are exploited.
