US Congress working on federal legislation for autonomous cars

Members of the US Congress are making steps towards introducing federal legislation governing autonomous cars. In the Senate, a group of three congressmen is working on a package of bills aimed at speeding up the deployment of autonomous vehicles, while prioritising safety, straightening cybersecurity, clarifying the role of federal and state authorities, and better educating the public about the technology. In the House of Representatives, members of the Energy and Commerce Committee are working on several bills that would address industry and consumers concerns related to autonomous vehicles. A discussion around these bills will be held during a public hearing the Committee plans to hold on 27 June.
