US attributes 75% of ransomware in second half of 2021 to Russian hackers

An investigation by the US Treasury Department found that 75% of the 793 ransomware incidents reported to US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) in the second half of 2021 ‘likely emanate from, or at a minimum are connected to, actors in Russia’.

The US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) reported the receipt of 1,489 ransomware-related filings worth nearly $1.2 billion in 2021, an increase of 188% from the year before.
