US army allowed to shoot down consumer drones

Concerned about the safety and security of military facilities, the US Department of Defense has issued guidance on the use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones, over and around military installations in the USA. The guidance, which is classified, allows the army to ‘retain the right of self-defence’ and ‘to take action to stop [drone-related] threats’. Such actions include including tracking, disabling, and destroying consumer drones, ‘depending on the circumstance and the type of installation where UAS activity is detected’.
