UNESCO alerts about increasing inequality in access to e-learning

As 191 countries have closed schools and switched to online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become evident that a huge number of children remain deprived of education. The main reason for not joining online classes is no access to computers and the Internet.
The statistics show that half of the total number of learners (826 million) do not own a home computer and that 43% (706 million) have no Internet at home. The area with the largest digital divide is sub-Saharan Africa, where 89% of learners do not have access to home computers and 82% lack Internet access.
