UN forum examines how to make science and technology work better for all

The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held a two-day virtual science, technology and innovation (STI) forum to explore the full potential of science and technology for the benefit of all people, which is part of the UN Technology Facilitation Mechanism to support the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030. In his remark to the forum, UN Secretary-General António Guterres underscored the role of STI for human well-being and survival which was accentuated by the COVID-19 crisis. ‘It is essential that we work together — across borders, sectors, and disciplines — to make science and technology work for everyone. Multi-stakeholder cooperation will continue to be the key, helping us to achieve the SGDs, address climate change, end the biodiversity and pollution crises and rise to our other common challenges,’ the statement said.
