UK to introduce new rules for drones

The UK government has announced plans to introduce new rules that would require drones to be registered and users to sit safety awareness tests. Drones weighing over 250 grams will have to be registered by their owners, as a measure ‘to improve accountability and encourage owners to act responsibly’. The government is looking at how to enable the registration of drones to be done online or through web applications. The drone safety awareness test will test the owners’ understanding of UK safety, security, and privacy regulations. Moreover, the government intends to expand the use of geo-fencing technology that would stop drones from entering sensitive areas such as airports or prisons.
