UK and IBM launch AI and quantum computing centre

The UK government and IBM have announced a joint investment of £210 million into a new artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing centre. Based at the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Daresbury Laboratory, the Hartree National Centre for Digital Innovation aims to bring together world-leading experts in AI and quantum computing to develop technologies for use in the industry and the public sector. The centre will also provide training and support ‘to make sure the UK is at the forefront of the next generation of computing’. The project will benefit from £172 million over 5 years through UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and an additional £38 million from IBM.
