Uber urges Hong Kong authorities to rethink fine increases

Uber has urged the Hong Kong government to reconsider increasing fines for allegedly illegal ride-hailing services. The plea came after the Transport and Housing Bureau expressed it was preparing legislative amendments to increase the penalties for illegal transportation of passengers in order to protect the interest of citizens. Despite having operations in Hong Kong for six years, Uber riders are deemed illegal without a hire-car permit. The company has worked on ways to operate legally.
