Uber launches on-demand staffing platform

Uber launched the shift-worker finder app Uber Works in partnership with staffing agencies. The focus of the app is to match shift job seekers with employers looking for temporary staff. Uber is continuing to expand its business to explore labour possibilities. The company has announced the new platform as an opportunity to “workers dealing with rigid scheduling and a lack of information about pay and where they can pick up shifts”.The promise is that Uber Works will facilitate finding and taking a shift while give employers more flexibility to increase their workforce when it gets busy. Uber will charge companies for the jobs they announce on the platform. The rate will vary based on how fast the shifts need to be filled and the qualifications required. Chicago is the first city to have Uber Works. Uber is unclear if it will expand it to other cities.
