Uber fined by CNIL over data breach cover-up

CNIL, the French data protection authority, fined Uber €400 000 for not revealing the massive data breach which affected 57 million users in 2016, including 1.4 million in France promptly. Uber had first tried to cover-up the breach by paying hackers to make them delete the dataset, and it eventually disclosed the breach last year. As reported by the EUObserver, the Dutch and UK data protection authorities had already given Uber fines of respectively €600 000 and £385 000 last month.
