Uber faces drivers protests over working conditions in the UK
The App Drivers & Couriers Union (ADCU) has called Uber drivers for a one day strike in the UK. Demonstrations are taking place outside Uber offices in eight cities. The ADCU supported drivers in the major legal case that led the Supreme Court to recognize drivers as workers, an intermediary category between employees and contractors in the UK. The Union considers that Uber has not completely implemented the Supreme Court ruling by not paying drivers for waiting times and by keeping unfairly dismissing them. Uber responded to the call for strike by saying it only recognizes the GMB union as a representative of Uber drivers. In addition, Uber spokesperson said the company is working to raise standards for drivers through greater transparency and engagement.
