The Technology Innovation Institute – the applied research pillar of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council – has announced that its Quantum Research Centre will build UAE’s first quantum computer, in collaboration with Barcelona-based Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech researchers. The preparatory work is already ongoing and includes building and equipping a dedicated laboratory; after this, ‘the first qubits will be prepared, characterised, and benchmarked’. It is expected that the lab will develop its first simple quantum chips by the end of August 2021.
