Turkey’s media regulator forces international media to obtain licenses

Turkey’s media watchdog Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) ordered the Voice of America (VoA), Deutsche Welle (DW) Türkçe and Euronews to submit an application for a license within 72 hours or have their content blocked.

RTÜK bases its decision on Article 29/A of Law No. 6112 which allows RTUK to impose fines, suspend broadcasting for three months or cancel broadcast licenses if the licensees do not follow RTUK’s principles.
