Trump’s visa ban that affected tech workers is over

Former US president Donald Trump’s ban on H-1B visas, also so-called guest worker visas, expired and was not extended by the US government. Currently, foreign high-skilled workers can reapply for entry in the USA. By the time of the ban, tech companies, including Apple, Twitter and Google, vocally opposed the policy. These companies were highly affected by the measure, given that they import tech workforce from the rest of the world to work in Silicon Valley. Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly stated his company’s disappointment with the ban: ‘Like Apple, this nation of immigrants has always found strength in our diversity, and hope in the enduring promise of the American dream. There is no prosperity without both. Deeply disappointed by this proclamation’.  By the time, Trump said that the ban was an immediate response to unemployment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
