Texas passes social media bill

The Governor of US state Texas has signed a new social media bill into law. This new law requires social media platforms with more than 50 million monthly users to remove illegal content within 48 hours, disclose their content moderation policies and allow for appeals.

Users, in this case, residents of Texas, have now the right to sue social media platforms for suspension of their accounts and request account reinstatement. It also allows the Texas attorney general to file lawsuits against social media platforms on behalf of users.
