Swisscom sets up a separate network for the Internet of Things

Swisscom, the major Swiss telecom company, is setting up an additional network dedicated to the Internet of Things: the Low Power Network (LPN), designed for the transmission of small amounts of data and enabling objects and devices to communicate with one another. The LPN makes it possible to ascertain the status of an object, such as whether it is bright or dark, warm or cold, moving or stationary. According to Telecompaper, similar initiatives are underway in countries such as France, Belgium, the US, Russia and the Netherlands.
