Swedish court dismisses Huawei’s appeal over 5G ban

Reuters reported that the Supreme Administrative Court of Sweden dismissed an appeal by Huawei against its exclusion from the country’s 5G network spectrum auction. The court allows the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) to proceed with 5G spectrum auction as planned for 19 January, 2021. The PTS announced four companies that are invited to participate in the 5G roll-out in October 2020, excluding Huawei and ZTE on the grounds of security risks. The regulator gave telecom companies taking part in 5G auctions until 1 January, 2025 to remove equipment from the two companies from existing infrastructure and core networks. A representative of Huawei’s rival Ericsson told in November that the decision to ban Huawei restricted free competition and trade.
